For the record, we at lingcod.org do not recommend this recipe. We do not like it, support it, or trust it. But we received numerous requests from both thrill seeking youngsters and a surprising percentage of very large fish to include it. So here you go. Please be careful. As our favorite living food critic and risk taker Mandy (fish 102) put it: “with great risks come great rewards”.
1 hooked forage fish. Rockfish are best. Kelp greenling are a good substitute.
- Locate a rockfish that has taken a fisherman’s bait and is being drug to the surface.
- Follow the fish upwards. Grab it
- Swim like hell for the bottom.
- Dive into a cave or crevice and break the line by abrading it against rocks. Enjoy your dinner in the pleasant afterglow of the adrenaline rush.
