MacKenzie Bight Lingcod Nest Census

MacKenzie Bight Lingcod Nest Census Methods

The procedures used in the MacKenzie Bight Lingcod Nest Survey are based on procedures developed by the Vancouver Aquarium for use in its annual lingcod nest survey.

The MacKenzie Bight Nest Census area was selected and an initial survey conducted to locate the potential lingcod nesting sites located within the census area.

Each year, volunteer divers survey the potential nesting sites with the census area searching for lingcod nests. When a nest is found, the egg mass is measured (???) and the length of the guard fish is measured.

Additional data recored for each survey dive include: the potential nesting sites surveyed during the dive, the distance travel and the duration of the dive.
